This past winter certainly was an interesting one! With swinging temperatures and sporadic snow storms, much of the area was pretty barren for a majority of the winter season. However, when snow came it was often just enough to get trails prepared and open for snowmobile, ski, snowshoe and foot traffic to pass through. During these short spurts of activity, RTPI’s “Nature at Your Fingertips” winter trails cell phone tour got quite a bit of attention as riders and the like explored the area and it’s many fascinating stories. Below you can find a full summary of this season’s cell phone tour project.
Overall, this year’s tour was quite successful considering the winter we had. Even though it was a short season, there certainly wasn’t any less work to be done and we couldn’t have completed it without the help of Orbitist, the Snowmobile Clubs of Chautauqua County, the Snowmobile Federation and the support of many others. Next winter could potentially be a good one with talks of La Niña developing, bringing cold temperatures and snow back to the region once again. But until then, we will enjoy the summer sunshine and warmth as our next set of projects begin!
