RTPI Ornithological Club

The Roger Tory Peterson Institute’s Ornithological Club normally has monthly meetings at RTPI on the third Wednesday of each month from September through November and January through May. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are currently unable to accommodate in-person group meetings.  Instead, we are scheduling virtual meetings with guest speakers. Please see below for updates on dates, times and speakers in the 2020-2021 season.

Wednesday, December 2nd, 7:00 pm: The RTPI Ornithological Club invites you to join us for our next virtual meeting on December 2, at 7pm. Regional birder extraordinaire, talented photographer, and regional coordinator for the NYS Breeding Bird Atlas (NYS BBA), Gale Verhague, will discuss “Atlas Essentials” and what it takes for a priority block in the Atlas to be confirmed as completed. Chautauqua County is currently in fifth place in New York State with 121 confirmed breeding species in the first year of the Atlas. In addition to that, the very first priority block that was completed and approved in all of New York State was Chautauqua County’s “Hamlet_NW” block with 101 species and 51 of those species confirmed as breeding within the block. Pretty impressive! Please contact Twan Leenders at 716-665-2473 x225 or tleenders@rtpi.org for a link to join the meeting. If you are interested in learning more about the NYS BBA before December 2nd, you can visit the Atlas Essentials webpage at: https://ebird.org/atlasny/about/atlas-essentials.
