Rainforest Adventures
Works by Artist Jan Lutz
September 9 – November 13, 2016
This fall, RTPI will feature works by artist Jan Lutz of Cambridge Springs, PA. In this unique exhibition, Jan’s rainforest theme will be depicted through original oil paintings of tropical birds, landscapes, and more.
Jan is a versatile painter who enjoys painting various subject, although her current focus is landscapes. Her style may be described as tonalism, impressionism, or as a curator recently stated in a review, “philosophical realism”. She has been influenced by John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer, John Henry Twachtman and contemporary painters such as Richard Schmid, Jeremy Lipking and Peter Fiore. For Jan, every day is a lesson in light, a study of how sun, rain, fog and snow impact the landscape. She states, “I am intrigued by the subtle nuances of color and light and how they change with different atmospheric conditions to create a mood.” While each individual piece of her art speaks for itself, a lifetime of study and experimentation has resulted in a vital and significant body of work.
Jan’s love of the natural world has deepened through exploration of the rural areas surrounding her home as well as through travels around the U.S. and Latin America. She is an avid supporter of several conservation groups and strives to increase the public’s awareness and appreciation of the natural world through her work. Jan has been involved in contributing her work to various environmental causes. She has curated two exhibits, “Cats of the World” and “Life in the Mist: Rainforest Images”, from which a portion of the proceeds was donated to appropriate conservation organizations.
Some of Jan’s most recent exhibitions are Artists for Conservation International Exhibit, Vancouver, B.C. (2014, 2015), Pennsylvania Watercolor Society 34th International Exhibition (2013), Pennsylvania Watercolor Society 31st International Exhibition (2010), and Paint America Top 100, National Parks (2009).
Jan’s work is currently represented in The Kada Gallery (Erie, PA), and Portage Hill Gallery (Westfield, NY).
