Posted on Mar 24, 2017

The New York State Bluebird Society will sponsor a Bluebird Workshop at the Roger Tory Peterson Institute in Jamestown on Saturday, April 1st at 1pm. This free, public workshop will feature two presentations by John Ruska – past president and lifetime director of the Bluebird Society. Ruska’s first presentation- entitled “All About Bluebirds – and More” – will detail the life history of the Eastern Bluebird; will include a display and discussion of the various types of Bluebird nestboxes and how they are best managed; and will provide opportunities for participants to ask Bluebird related questions to an experienced panel of Bluebirders!

John Ruska – Lifetime director of the New York Sate Bluebird Society

For the second presentation, Ruska will be joined by Don Watts of Warren, P.A. to talk about other types of birds that nest in cavities (Purple Martins, Prothonotary Warblers, Kingfishers, Wood Ducks, and others) and how they are similar and different from bluebirds. Both of these talks will appeal to both novice and experienced birders. John Ruska and his wife, Beverly have maintained an extensive trail of bluebird boxes in Chautauqua County for 25 years. He has delivered presentations on Bluebirds to hundreds of groups throughout the United States and other countries.

BONUS: Those who sign up for a one (1) year membership ($10) to the Bluebird Society will receive a free bird feeder, and those who sign up for a 3 Year membership ($25) will receive a free nest box. Informational displays and complimentary literature will also be available.

Mark your calendars for April 1st, and don’t miss this exciting and informative meeting! Please contact John Ruska at 716-410-5456 or ruskhill@roadrunner.com with any questions.
