Biting deer and horse flies

Posted on Jun 18, 2014

Those eyes… those stunningly beautiful eyes…. I know that by now it is becoming pretty hard to appreciate the beauty of the pesky bugs that can make your stroll in the woods less than enjoyable. If you can muster the energy to look before you swat, check out their beautifully diverse patterns and colors.

Biting fly

Most biting deer and horse flies can be identified by the unique pattern and coloration of their large compound eyes. Sometimes it takes a different perspective and a close look to truly appreciate the little gems around us (and some gritting of teeth in this particular case). For your convenience, we’re supplying you with one of our local species to admire in peace. No need to donate blood this time!
