Pink Tiger
This Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (Papilio glaucus) was looking a little tattered and torn, showing the wear of weeks on the wing this summer. It took a long drink from this pink coneflower which was also looking a little past its prime, but that clearly did not matter in making a perfect moment of nature’s beauty and grace.

This Green Frog recently took a hop my way on a wonderfully sunny day. Despite those enjoyable conditions I think it and we all would and should keep rooting for more rain. A moderate to severe drought continues to plague much of the Northeast region including western New York, and days like yesterday are very welcome! During NY Invasive Species Awareness Week RTPI hosted a number of events raising awareness about local invasive species and conducted several survey efforts with their Project Wild America Youth Ambassadors. One of the events, Water Chestnut Chasers, resulted in the PWA crew and RTPI staff kayaking the outlet of Chautauqua Lake in search of this pesky plant. Survey efforts came up negative (whew!), but a very positive experience exploring the wild shorelines of the Chadakoin River was had.
