We just want to take a moment to congratulate Tina Scherman, our educator, on her retirement! This week will be her last at RTPI and we wish her the very best as she ventures on to the next season of life. She will be missed, but plans to join us from time to time out in the field as we continue to carry out various conservation and educational outreach projects. If you stop in to RTPI this week, be sure to say hi to Tina and give her your best wishes!
Tina has spent much of the past year teaching children (and adults!) about Roger Tory Peterson himself through a program called “For the Birds.” Through this program, many have learned about Roger, his field guides and have played a little game of JeopBIRDY to test their bird ID skills.
While Tina is an excellent educator, she is also a great Hemlock Woolly Adelgid hunter as well!
To be a good educator, you also have to be a good learner. This summer, Tina took advantage of the WAVE training held by DEC and learned about macroinvertebrates as indicators of water quality.
Here, Tina is teaching some Ornithology students from Houghton College a thing or two about birds, and the man who made it easy for anyone to identify birds with his field guides, Roger Tory Peterson.
This summer Tina was a great help to our Project Wild America Youth Ambassadors and helped us identify several of the species existing along the Chadakoin River Corridor.
