RTPI Staff Members Attend Conference in Washington, DC

Posted on Apr 2, 2015

At the end of February, staff member Linda Pierce and I had the opportunity to attend the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) 2015 Museums Advocacy Day conference in Washington, D.C.!  By attending the conference, we became part of the effort to make a case for museums across the country.  The highlight of the experience was the day that we met with some of our state legislators on Capitol Hill.  We were given the chance to speak on behalf of the Roger Tory Peterson Institute of Natural History, and therefore other small museums in New York State in order to gain support for our essential and meaningful institutions.  Along with representatives from other institutions in New York State, we sent a message to our Congressional leaders that museums play a key role in education, tourism, job creation, economic development, environmental conservation, and more in our local communities.  We met incredible people, heard touching stories and returned to Jamestown feeling uplifted and inspired.
