We at the Roger Tory Peterson Institute of Natural History were pleased to have the opportunity to host an exhibition of photographs by Randal Piersons titled Shrooms and Such. Randy grew up in Jamestown, New York, but for more than 40 years has lived in Sweden. The Swedish cultural perspective he has adopted includes a deep appreciation for the natural world, including mushrooms. Like many Swedes he loves to hunt for, collect, and eat all sorts of wild edible mushrooms. The 45 photographs in this exhibit expressed this love of mushrooms and the places they inhabit. Visitors enjoyed experiencing the boreal forests of Sweden and their beautiful fungi through Randy’s evocative images.
