Superb Sky

There was a superb sky around the moon after sunset one night last week, though only for a few minutes. It was a case of the atmosphere looking better through the camera lens and polarizer with the latter enabling the former to see what we could not with our eyes. I thought the view looked otherworldly to say the least. I guarantee that I was on Earth, but it felt like another planet. It helps to remind us how much is truly going on around us in nature and the atmosphere, all of it impacting the life of thousands upon thousands of species that we must work to keep protecting…including...

December Sky

This December sky came at sunset on yet another warm and almost balmy evening…what a time to be alive! Polar Vortex Blocked

Via NWS New York, here’s a nice explanation of why we are baking in December heat with a scorched brown earth instead of freezing in frosty snow-covered lands as we were the past two years right about now. El Niño should continue blocking the polar vortex as long as it stays strong, and considering it’s amounting to be the strongest ever recorded…

September Sunset

September Sunset

This has been the hottest September on record thus far for many locations in the Northeast. The sultry and arid conditions have worsened a drought for much of the region. The blazing sunset here may be one of the last hot days of the year as today’s cold front should bring much more seasonable conditions for the week, albeit still a little above average in terms of temperature and far below average for precipitation in the near future. All of this is coming after a historically cold winter. What was that we used to say about climate change and the future…extremes, and more of...
