Black-and-white Warbler
As Sean was seeing Black-and-white Warblers (Mniotilta varia) darting in and out of tropical trees only a week ago, he is very much looking forward to them being back in the Northeast with us. Here is a stunning male between the blossoms on the branch of an apple tree – always a great spot to find warblers! Photographed for the Meet Your Neighbours global biodiversity project.

It is only mid-March but the crocus have come to join us! We are about to hit spring and the first signs continue to spring up everywhere we look. These lovely crocus flowers were opening up this morning to feel some sun on another beautiful and unseasonably warm day. The first bees are in the air, too!

This is a very tiny and so very vibrant pink wildflower! I am not a botanist and did not know the species was, but I believe it to be Deptford Pink or Grass Pink (Dianthus armeria). The wildflower is native to Europe, and though nonnative in our soil it does well without becoming invasive or dominating any landscape. I noticed this Tulip Tree flower on the ground only because it was lit by one ray of sunlight in the shade. The leaves have popped here, there and everywhere! We are really getting that late spring feel to the weather this week. If you can let that lawn grow up a little this summer please do. It helps all of our pollinators, means less pollution, saves your time, money and energy, and can even provide a better habitat for some of our birds.
