During another day of frenetic bird activity and successful avian surveys I made time to search for other life including butterflies like this Mourning Cloak (Nymphalis antiopa). One of our earliest occurring species this individual is tattered but still flying wonderfully.

While dragonflies pop up in Western New York butterflies of various species are all over the rapidly blooming and greening Connecticut! I even spotted an Eastern-tailed Blue (Cupido comyntas) this afternoon, two days shy of CT’s early record for the species.
