Waters are high in Western New York after all the recent rain making Spiny Softshell Turtles harder to find. That was not a problem for Twan today as you can see here. He even noted a few test nesting holes he attributed to work done during the heat last week.

There are still plenty of ducks around that are nearly all paired up. These Hooded Mergansers were in downtown Jamestown on the Chadakoin River. She certainly blends in!

They’re backkk! Well, they never left, but here they are in the open – that’s one male and two female Spiny Softshell Turtles, a New York State ‘Special Concern’ species, as seen a couple hours ago here in Jamestown by RTPI conservation staff and SUNY JCC interns.
