Happy Thanksgiving! Many Thanksgivings ago I was watching my bird feeders at my parent’s house in Connecticut while waiting for family to arrive and dinner to begin on a cool, rainy day. While looking out the window I spotted, naked eye, an oddly shaped and surprisingly brightly colored bird on a tree branch. I grabbed my binoculars very quickly and had a good look at a warbler inspecting the feeding area and all of the bird commotion below it. RTPI in the snow by Scott Kruitbosch

I took this photo of RTPI in the snow last week – the snow that is now gone! After a December thaw thanks to a warm front that brought wave after wave of rainfall to the region the beginning of winter certainly did not look or feel like it. I hope the subsequent flooding and icing has not impacted you. Snow is here now again and more will be on the way soon as we drop the temperature back to more typical levels.

A chilly December with snow for some

December has been a chilly month thus far after a brief very warm start. Last month I discussed the cold and snowy end to November and thought we would be around normal in terms of precipitation and a bit cooler than average.
