Eastern Cottontail (Sylvilagus floridanus)
Who doesn’t love a little Eastern Cottontail (Sylvilagus floridanus) in their lives? This furry little friend has a tick attached to it on the right side of its face. You know, the more we do to add to the proliferation of those parasites and their diseases, endangering human lives, the more we also make life more difficult for local wildlife exposed to the same conditions with unknown consequences and assuredly untold suffering.

It is terribly ironic that just hours after my colleague, Audubon Connecticut Director of Bird Conservation Patrick Comins, uploaded some lovely cottontail photos to the Audubon Connecticut at Stratford Point page that I found our vixen Red Fox engaged in some hunting early this morning. Yep, this is a baby bunny – Eastern Cottontail (Sylvilagus floridanus) – and a very blatant attempt by me to post something cute. I came up on the young one entirely unexpectedly. It stayed in the shadows before deciding that stationary human looked a little too suspicious, making a mad and adorable dash back into the grasslands.
