Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes)

This Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) is a “vixen” (female), and the only reason I know that is because she is a dear old friend. The Red Fox pair who breed on the Stratford Point property are well known to us, and we are well known to them. The male, usually called a “dog”, has a scar on his face and a damaged eye. They are intelligent and inquisitive creatures, and they do learn a little about who is around them frequently and whether or not they are a threat. Fox Friday

While we have done Frog Fridays from time to time, I thought we could change it up a bit and do a Fox Friday post. While Scott’s got some cute Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) kits growing up outside his place, I’ve got some little foxes growing up just down the street from where I live right near Chautauqua Lake. Red Fox Encounter

I recently encountered an old friend in the form of a Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) at a known site that has a den and an annual family. I was unexpectedly thrust into the role of being the stalker instead of the sly fox. Even that is not a very accurate description as I stopped moving when I spotted it, knowing that it would detect me if I continued my progress.
