RTPIOC September 30, 2015 Meeting
On Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at 7:00PM please join us for the first meeting of the 2015-2016 Roger Tory Peterson Institute of Natural History Ornithological Club season. It will include a presentation by RTPIOC President Tom Simmons. Tom will describe a “Maui Adventure,” sharing photos of Hawaii birds, including four endemic species, and humpback whales, volcanoes, and black sand beaches. There will be refreshments and conversation after the meeting. We hope you will be able to attend! The meeting will take place at RTPI – 311 Curtis St., Jamestown, NY 14701.

This morning RTPI Affiliate Sean Graesser and I attended the annual meeting of the Aspetuck Land Trust at the always magnificent Trout Brook Valley Conservation Area in Weston and Easton, Connecticut with many great friends, naturalists, conservationists and caring neighbors. Thankfully incoming rain showers held off until the afternoon, but the cool and cloudy conditions kept it quiet for most insects. This past Monday the Southern New England‐Long Island Sound Waterbird Working Group annual meeting was convened for the first time since 2013. A couple dozen representatives from government agencies and NGOs from Maine to New York, including RTPI Conservation & Outreach Coordinator Scott Kruitbosch, met in Connecticut to discuss the last season and prepare for the coming nesting season both in person and via webinar. If you haven’t noticed we at RTPI are going to make a more concerted effort to show you all what really goes on during our work days. Many of the beautiful birds and other creatures we post to share and enjoy are taken during a very tiny slice of our time. Today I spent the afternoon meeting with our friends and partners from Audubon Connecticut at the Audubon Center at Bent of the River in Southbury, Connecticut.
