Tree Swallow

This busy nesting Tree Swallow (Tachycineta bicolor) may have been hunting for insects while perched at the top of the pole of its box, but it almost looked for a moment to be staring towards the sun in silent contemplation. Just something to think about for your Monday morning – and I hope you get to spend at least some of your day outdoors basking in the sunshine. Yellow Warbler

This male Yellow Warbler was more engrossed in feeding and foraging than singing and calling on a recent cloudy May day, with many, many others of the species migrating through the area. Will this guy be a resident or is he a migrant, too? I’m leaning towards the latter with how little he spoke. Cape May Warbler

This male Cape May Warbler (Setophaga tigrina) is hidden in the very tops of this oak tree, its bright and vibrant yellow, orange and brown shades somehow camouflaged in the growing leaves and glowing sunlight. The easiest way to “spot” this bird was to hear its voice, but even the song of the species is a high-pitched, thin and quick little tune.
