Here we have a couple of adorable little ones learning by doing and constructing baby Piping Plover chicks during an outreach event for the Bridgeport WildLife Guards with Audubon Connecticut and the Roger Tory Peterson Institute of Natural History this past Saturday. We were one of the exhibits during a celebration of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) for children of all ages at Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Underwater Rock

While surveying for Eastern Hellbenders, we sometimes utilize technology to get a better view of potential crevices that might be used as an entrance point for the salamander to get under a rock. Using a waterproof camera, I snapped this shot to see how far back the opening went and if any hellbender faces were poking out of the darkness. Although it didn’t seem to be a long enough crevice for a hellbender to use, it still turned out to be an interesting view! Elyse Henshaw Conservation Technician

Get outdoors this holiday season by Scott Kruitbosch

Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all of you! If you have days off during the holiday season what better way to spend it than going outside? We are often stuck indoors far too long in the winter, and if you’re enjoying time with your family and friends see how many hours you can get outdoors with them. I know I’ve been on my laptop and phone a lot this week and am looking forward to some time to mentally decompress outside. It’s free, it’s refreshing, it’s beautiful and it’s what we come from.
