Fox Sparrow scratching like a chicken
This Fox Sparrow (Passerella iliaca) was doing its best chicken impression while scratching at the earth to find seeds in the leaf litter, primarily oak leaves, on a cold, wet and dreary November day.

Right now the migrating American Pipit (Anthus rubescens) can be found on farms and fields in areas such as Chautauqua County to the shores of Lake Erie or the Atlantic Coast. You may see one individual or you may see dozens. This HD video shows how much they as a species enjoy bobbing their tails. It may be a “drab” bird due to its preference for open areas but it certainly has an understated zest.

Turn up the volume on this one! Here’s Twan’s yard being deluged with hail during last evening’s severe thunderstorm. There are a bunch of very large stones that come down in the middle of the video especially. Most break and begin to melt by the later post-storm time Twan took the photos in the earlier post today but it is obvious some are around golf ball size.
