Temperatures are soaring upwards today to the mid 70s and the strong southerly flow responsible for the rise is taking a toll on the foliage! It even hit 80 in Buffalo. Come see Passenger Pigeons

Please be sure to stop by RTPI and come up to our second floor to see these Passenger Pigeons (Ectopistes migratorius) on display. Where else will you be able to see and learn about an extinct species right in front of you? RTPI is open Tuesday through Saturday 10:00AM-4:00PM and Sunday 1:00 PM-5:00 PM.

Passenger Pigeon centennial

The world’s last Passenger Pigeon, Martha, died at 1PM on September 1, 1914 at the Cincinnati Zoo. Once likely the most abundant bird in North America it was effectively extinct in the wild around the turn of the 20th century and even Roger Tory Peterson, born 1908, never saw one. He did illustrate the species for his first field guide in 1934 with the help of museum specimens.
