Jonathan Townsend grew up near Olean, NY, where he developed a lifelong love and passion for the natural world.  This fascination with ecological relationships led him to pursue a BS in Environmental Science and an MS in Biology, both from SUNY Fredonia.  Jonathan has worked with various state and local municipalities, private environmental consultants, and non-profits in his career, and specializes in bat biology and conservation.  Prior to starting at RTPI, Jonathan worked full-time as the Conservation Lands Manager for the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy and taught biology part-time as an Adjunct Professor at Jamestown Community College.  Jonathan is currently on the Board of Directors at Greystone’s Bat, Bird and Butterfly Sanctuary, where he has been working to develop a regional bat conservation initiative, which includes public education, scientific research, and habitat development for bat species in the region.
